Background
Demokratie & Dialog is a European not-for-profit association working in education—most notably political, citizenship and human rights education—where practice, research and policy meet. It was founded in 2008 by Europeans—individuals working at the intersection of research, policy and practice—with the ambition to foster democracy and dialogue in Europe.
All of our founding members were connected to Peter Lauritzen, one of the pioneers of political and citizenship education in the youth sector as well as adult education. The personal motivation that brought us together was rooted in the wish to sustain and support the causes and principles Peter has worked for all his life.
Our first common project was the book «Born in Flensburg, Europe. Journeys with Peter Lauritzen» – a volume of essayistic contributions from colleagues, fellow travellers and friends treating some of Peter’s themes of professional and personal interest including non-formal and intercultural education, youth research and youth policy development as well as human rights and European co-operation.
